Additional Sony Ericsson HBHDS980 Stereo Bluetooth Headset Information

Sony Ericsson makes listening to music and taking calls a quality experience with the launch of the Stereo Bluetooth¿ Headset HBH-DS980, announced today. This stylish accessory delivers wireless music and calls with superior sound performance, even in noisy environments. This is achieved through advances in design, ergonomics and audio: Digital noise cancellation/echo reduction to reduce background noise. Bluetooth¿ 2.0 to deliver better quality voice calls. A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) for high quality sound when listening to music. A hidden OLED display delivers a seamless design effect, much brighter than a conventional LCD display. Given a talk time or music playback time of up to 6 hours, the HBH-DS980 has to be designed with comfort in mind. The soft silicon ear buds on the stereo headset are provided in three sizes, so as to ensure an optimum fit with the size and shape of the wearer's ear. Separate to the headset, the overall unit weighs in at just 27 grams, so won't be a burden when worn around the neck. Of course, if you are wearing your headset for long periods, you will also want it to look the part. Finished in a stylish charcoal colour, the Stereo Bluetooth¿ Headset HBH-DS980 features a hidden ¿magic mirror' display that only becomes visible once the headset is activated. Use it to view the title of the song playing on your phone, the battery status of your headset or the details of the caller trying to reach you. You can use the HBH-DS980 with more than one device at the same time. The new multipoint function allows you to listen to music stored on a Bluetooth¿ enabled PC/laptop and handle calls from your phone at the same time.

What Customers Say About Sony Ericsson HBHDS980 Stereo Bluetooth Headset:

I bought this headset for my brother for Christmas because I thought it seemed very cool, with good features and good usability. Big disappointment for me on the Christmas gift that I didn't do a good job of finding the right headphones for him. Every 6-8 seconds, he would lose audio for a couple seconds and then it would come back on.

on the mini-screen. He called the manufacturer and they acknowledged it as a known problem with iPhone music playback. A couple days after Christmas, he called me to thank me enthusiastically because it really was great--he had made phone calls and liked how he could see the caller-id, etc.

Searching the web, he found many other references to the same problem. The issue came when he went back to work and started using the headset with his music collection. When he did that, IT WOULD NOT PLAY THE MUSIC WITHOUT CUTTING OUT.

:-(Anyway, he returned them to Amazon for an exchange credit and bought a different pair. Maybe this review will keep someone else out of trouble if they are buying a gift for someone with an iPhone.

Then there were charging issues.one will not even turn on or register that it is charging. I purchased one and got one as a gift, which was great to have one at home and one at work. For about the first month they were great, just long enough that I could not return them to the vendor. The 2nd one turns on when charging and even "fully charges" but once removed from the charger, it will not turn on. Huge let down.SE offered to let me "recycle" them with their program, no thank you, I have already had enough screwing and I'm not going to let them profit off of stripping the parts that are worth something at my expense.

Some people on here refer to sony's wierd charger for the headset when in fact it is not wierd if you own a sony phone and it doens't cost tons of money to replace it when it breaks all you have to do is buy the.01 cent charger for a sony ericson phone off of the website you guessed it amazon it cost like 2.00 to ship and presto problem solved. aside from clearing up that overblow issue the only thing i don't like abou this thing is the battery life but then again it is so lite you don't feel it on your neck so it is good in that sense also i would be nice to put your own headphones on it but alas it all goes back to making it lite i am quite happy with this product it is reliable the phone function is great and it keeps wierdos from talking to me on the bus. oh yah if you don't read the manual you will never figure out how to hook it up to more then one phone lol.

Sound quality is definitely not as good as the wired sets. Dunno if this is how all bluetooth stereo earphones are but this one sure is a letdown for me.

If I'm going to need to replace my headphones every month, I'll stick with my cheapos, thank you very much. The UI is maddening. Needless to say, you look like a goon if you wear it outside of your shirt and it is very comfortable inside of your shirt. Extra impractical if you're running. The actual headphones are not replaceable (though they are on other, cheaper Sony headsets). I can't tell you anything about this product's sound quality or battery life because I couldn't keep it connected long enough to make a call or start a song. The worst part of this is that I was using a Sony Ericsson phone. I would then repeat this about ten times.

Guess what's going to happen. The initial pairing on either product took an extremely long time and multiple attempts. Yes, your wires will fray naturally or be chewed on by a pet within a month and your $100 headset goes in the trash. There was no rhyme or reason to how it decided to connect to my devices. Did I mention it was $100 for a product unlikely to last more than a few months unless treated with zealous care. The phone never actually connected after it was paired. Nine out of ten times it would time out and give up trying to pair. The wires are also not braided.

It hangs around your neck, with the control pod down on your chest. If getting it to pair was a matter of trial and error, getting it to connect was like winning the lottery. I opted for a Plantronics Voyager 855 Bluetooth Headset (Black) instead and it has proven much more practical and capable.Let's start with why it is impractical. I followed all instructions meticulously and placed the devices at varying distances from the control pod.

Compare to the Voyager 855, which has a braided cord on its optional (and replaceable) headphone, and only costs around 30 bucks.Which brings me to the price. You do all this on a control pod whose buttons seem to have been designed to give you hand cramps. The control pod itself is larger than most headsets, and even larger than some media players. My second MAJOR problem is connectivity. I tried connecting it to two products: an iPod Touch 2g and a Sony Ericsson Walkman W580i phone. I wanted to like this headset, but it had so many problems that I returned it within a day. I would press connect on my phone or iPod and wait. It would try to connect, then give up and say 'Not Connected'. Eventually, if I was lucky, I'd get a connection. That connection would work for about one minute before it spontaneously disconnected.

The same phone connects flawlessly and automatically with both a Garmin Nuvi GPS device and the Plantronics Voyager 855, as does the iPod.I do not recommend this product to anyone. If you wear a jacket or sweatshirt it shouldn't be a problem. Even if you have no problems connecting the headset, it is still an impractical and expensive headset that will be a pain to use for the month you own it before a wire frays and you have to throw it away. It can connect to multiple devices, but to do so you must hold the menu button, navigate to the devices menu, the select a device. The iPod touch supports the fancy Bluetooth profiles that let you listen in stereo and control your music playback, while the phone doesn't. Even worse, I was at least able to get the iPod to connect for about a minute, if only once or twice. Buy the Plantronics Voyager 855 instead.
